Bhimthadi Jatra Dec 2017, Pune
I have been visiting The Bhimthadi Jatra for the last 7 years or more and last year I even created a VLOG video documenting the fun I had at the massive mela that happens annually in Pune. There was modak eating, dancing, shopping and a treat for all my senses.
This year the Bhimthadi Jatra visits Pune between 22-25th December at the Agriculture College Ground, and this year promises to be all that you expect it to be plus a whole lot more. Every year the excitement builds up over the days leading up to the mela but this year my excitement has multiplied many times over. “Why”, you ask….let me tell you why.
Pune Shopping & Fashion
This year is the start of a new section at the Bhimthadi Jatra, a section dedicated to sustainable fashion, with the theme of revival. This section will include 20 stalls curated by Pallavi Datta, who is a textile enthusiast and was announced as the official Fashion Documentarian for Sustainable fashion and Indian textile day at Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2017
There will be some amazing designers and labels, showcasing their beautiful creations at the Bhimthadi Select stalls. There will also be a fashion show with participating designers presenting their collections on the ramp and these clothes will be modelled by some of the better known names in the world of modelling.
What excites me most (other than the modaks) is the opportunity to attend live demonstrations and workshops on things like block printing, natural dying, urban gardening, healthy eating. etc.
This Time It’s Extra Special
What also makes this Bhimthadi Jatra extra special is the fact the my brand Ek Dori & Maharani Baug will also be part of Bhimthadi Select. Just typing these words makes my heart swell with pride and makes my eyes well up. To actually be part of a movement and an event that I have been admiring for so many years is totally surreal to me. To have a small space next to some of the biggest design stalwarts in the country and to rub shoulders with creative genius like Galang Gabaan is truly unreal to me.
Safe Food At Annadata
Also, if you like me believe that we become what we eat, then Bhimthadi is a must visit for you. There is a whole section ‘ Annadata ‘ that is dedicated to safe food. It is a wonderful opportunity for us to educate ourselves about the effects of our food choices and how taking some small steps towards safe food could drastically impact our health and our environment.
So if you are in Pune make sure you plan a day at the Bhimthadi Jatra, there is something for everyone and there is no other event in Pune that is as culturally rich as the Bhimthadi. If you are not in Pune, plan a trip, come down, it is a special kind of party that bridges the rural and the urban – it is beautiful.
