How to style a maxi dress
It wasn’t too long back when visitors from across the seas were eagerly awaited, what was even more of a treat was what they brought along in their suitcases, their hearts, their accents, their experiences and their stories from distant lands that seemed so exotic and far away. What I looked forward to the most were the old worn out tattered back issues of international magazines that sometimes came along. Once I had them in my hands I would look for an opportune moment to slip away into quiet oblivion and be transported into a different world.
I would be lost in the magazines for hours, observing the clothes, the food, the homes and the personalities, was such a treat for all my senses, while I soaked it all in, my mind would furiously take notes about the far away land. I would admire those pencil skirts, the frills on the blouses, the miracles of the push up bra and the confident arch of those stilettos, and wish longingly and lovingly for all of them, knowing full well that they were beyond my reach. I wished, dreamed and imagined all those things in my life never ever expecting that some day they would be closer than I could ever dream, so accessible that I would take them for granted.
But isn’t that exactly what is happening today? Every international brand known, unknown, old or new, small or big is now available in India – online or in the malls. There are so many international brands available on sites like Jabong and Myntra that it is hard to keep up. There are brands that I did not know existed a few years back and today I cannot imagine an existence without them – Zara, Mango, DKNY, New Look, Steve Madden, Gas, Aldo, Dorothy Perking (to name just a few) are all available online.
What makes things even sweeter is the fact that there is always a discount code hiding some where waiting for you to discover it and that makes these international brands not just available but also affordable for everyone. A maxi dress memory
Back to the outfit, I remember seeing a similar maxi dress on a beautiful model in Instyle magazine (brought along by an overseas guest:) years ago, it was part of a Warrior Princess fashion spread and I loved it so much that it is still etched in my memory. It feels so surreal and special to be able to share this look and this memory with you..
At the risk of making myself sound ancient, I really enjoyed bringing this memory to life, I hope you enjoyed it too
