How to organize your life or maybe I should call it the ‘how I intend to organize my life’ post.
What a week last week has been. Maid issues, work deadlines, rains, social obligations and complains from school, ughh, you get the picture right? The week started on a very energetic note and I decided to post (blog) every weekday this week and I ended the week with an abysmal performance, having posted just 2 times in the week.
I ended each day feeling dissatisfied with what I had accomplished, wondering where the day had gone and realizing that I had just lost something precious that I would never get back – time. It is a very frustrating and painful feeling when you know you have lost something for ever and you have no one but yourself to blame for the loss.
It reminded me of the very simple 888 rule I was introduced to by my sister. It says that God has given us 24 perfect hours in each day which can be perfectly divided into 3 parts, 8 hours for sleep, 8 hours for work and 8 hours for play or leisure. Think about it, its perfect, its genius, its so simple.
I do get my 8 hours of sleep, so that is taken care of, now if only I could get 8 hours of work done I would feel much more fulfilled and 8 hours of leisure would be bliss. 8 hours is a lot of time or at-least enough time if only I could utilize it well.
I knew right away that I needed to put the missing pieces in place, I needed to bring some discipline and organization in my life.
Let me define ‘organizing your life’ here..
Organizing your life is about managing your things well enough so that you finally have the time to do the things that are important to you. It is about clearing away everything that distracts you from doing the things that are important.
There, sweet and simple..my ahhhaa moment right there..
There are a ton of changes that I know I need to make in my life but I also know that trying to make drastic big changes all at once is literally setting myself up for failure. So one step at a time, small changes that will result in major change, provided I manage to stick to them.
Here is what will happen from now on..
I will be asking myself this one question often “Is what you are doing taking you closer to your goal or is it coming in the way?” Now that I think of it, there is a ton of time I spend doing things that are not truly constructive, asking this question all the time could be the key to unlocking my potential..hallelujah!!!!
Is watching a video on creating the Taj Mahal nail art video going to help me get closer to my dreams? I guess not
Is snooping around on facebook, trying to ascertain which one of those ‘friends’ have put on a truck load of weight gonna get me to my goals? Unfortunately not..sigh!!
Or is looking at the latest designer bridal lehengas (when you have been married for ages) gonna do that? Damn no!!
I am going to try and make a list of things I would like to accomplish each day and I will try and do it the previous night, so that the subconscious mind gets a chance to process it and work on it while I sleep. No seriously, no jokes..we might sleep but the subconscious mind does not so the mind gets all night to think things through and come up with the best way to get things done.
This list will be prioritized (in my mind, not in some complex excel sheet). The tasks right on top need to be tackled first thing in the morning and not left for the end of the day. This will ensure that the most important things get done and do not spill over into the next day.
I will also try and create blocks of time for things that are important, family, health etc. I will not sit before the computer once the family is together or watch TV when I need to workout. These compartments of time need to be created in my mind so that I know when to end one thing and tune into doing something else.
Its important to make each day count, and I am on a mission to do just that. I will be keeping you posted about how it all goes, what works and what does not Hopefully this how to organize your life post will get some discipline into my life. Do share your organizing and scheduling tips with me…I know I need all the help I can get.
